Revised Minimum Wages of Maharashtra for the period from January 2019 to June 2019
The Maharashtra government is revised the minimum wages of the workers to the following employment categories with effect from 1st January 2019 and details as follows.
Daily Wages Payable to an Employee shall be computed by dividing total monthly wages, by no. of 26 Days. (Total Wages i.e. Basic + Special Allowance, divide by 26 Days.)
a) Zone I – Area falling within the limits of Municipal Corporations. (Engineering employment- Area falling within the limits of all Municipal Corporations, cantonment areas & Industrial areas within 20 Km.redius from all the Municipal Corporations limits.-For Engineering Employment).
b) Zone II – Area falling within the limits of all ‘A’ and ‘B’ grade Municipal Councils.
c) Zone III – All other area in the State, not included in Zone I and Zone II.
The Main Objective of Minimum Wages is to provide for fixing the minimum rates of wages in certain employments.
It provides for fixing minimum wages in certain employments where labour is ignorant or less organised and is vulnerable to exploitation.
The Act provides for the fixation of a minimum time rate, a minimum piece rate, a guaranteed time rate, an overtime rate appropriate to different occupations and different classes of workers.
The employer is required to pay to every employee, engaged in a scheduled employment under him, wages at a rate not less than the minimum rate of wages notified for that class of employees without any deduction except as may be authorised.
Every employer is required to maintain registers and records giving particulars of employees, the work performed by them, the wages paid to them, the receipts given by them and any other required particulars.
