Index of Eight Core Industries (Base: 2011-12=100)

 The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).  The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stands at 124.2 in April, 2018, which was 4.7per cent higher as compared to the index of April, 2017. Its cumulative growth during April to March, 2017-18 was 4.3per cent.

Coal

Coal production (weight: 10.33per cent) increased by 16.0 per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 2.6 per cent during April to March, 2017-18over corresponding period of the previous year.

Crude Oil

Crude Oil production (weight: 8.98per cent) declined by 0.8 per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index declined by 0.9 per cent during April to March, 2017-18over the corresponding period of previous year.

Natural Gas

The Natural Gas production (weight: 6.88per cent) increased by 7.4per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 2.9 per cent during April to March, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Refinery Products

Petroleum Refinery production (weight: 28.04per cent) increased by 2.7 per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 4.6 per cent during April to March, 2017-18over the corresponding period of previous year.

Fertilizers

Fertilizers production (weight: 2.63 per cent) increased by 4.6 per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 0.03 per cent during April to March, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Steel

Steel production (weight: 17.92per cent)increased by 3.5 per cent in April, 2018 over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 5.6per cent during April to March, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Cement

Cement production (weight: 5.37per cent) increased by 16.6per cent in April, 2018over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 6.3per cent during April to March, 2017-18over the corresponding period of previous year.

Electricity

Electricity generation (weight: 19.85per cent) increased by2.2per cent in April, 2018over April, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 5.3per cent during April to March, 2017-18over the corresponding period of previous year.

Note 1: Data for February, 2018, March, 2018 and April, 2018are provisional.

Note 2: Since April, 2014, Electricity generation data from Renewable sources are also included.

Note 3: The industry-wise weights indicated above are individual industry weight derived from IIP and blown up on pro rata basis to a combined weight of ICI equal to 100.

Note 4: Release of the index for May, 2018 will be on Monday, 2nd July, 2018.
