The Minimum Wages to the Industrial Workers in Employment of Mines for the period 01.04.2018
Government of India, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner(C) issued order vide notification File KNo.1/10(2)/2018-LS-11 dated 03.04.2018 the Minimum wages as revised as follows with effect from 01st April 2018 and details as follows.
In exercise of the powers conferred by Central Government vide Notification No, 8.0.2413(E) dated 28th July, 2017 of the Ministry of Labour and Employment the undersigned, hereby, revise the rates of Variable Dearness Allowance on the basis of the average consumer price index number for the preceding period of six months ending on 31.12.2017 reaching 286 from 277.5 (base 2001=100) and thereby resulting in an increase of 8.5 points for Industrial Workers as under, This order shall come into force w.e.f. 01.04.2018.
Rates of Variable Dearness Allowance for employees employed in employments in Gypsum Mines, Barytes Mines, Bauxite Mines, Manganese Mines, China Clay Mines, Kyanite Mines, Copper Mines, Clay Mines, Magnesite Mines, White Clay Mines, Stone Mines, Steatite Mines (including the mines producing Soap Stones and Talc), Ochre Mines, Asbestos Mines, Fire Clay Mines, Chromite Mines, Quartzite Mines, Quartz Mines, Silica Mines, Graphite Mines, Felspar Mines, Laterite Mines, Dolomite Mines, Red Oxide Mines, Wolfram Mines Iron Ore Mines, Granite Mines Rock Phosphate Mines, Hematite Mines, Marble and Calcite Mines, Uranium Mines, Mica Mines, Lignite Mines, Gravel Mines, Slate Mines and Magnetite Mines.
The VDA has been rounded off to the next higher rupee as per the decision o the Minimum Wages Advisory board.
The classification of workers under different categories will be same as in Part-I of the notification, whereas classification of cities will be same as in the Part-II of the notification dated 19(11 January., 2017. The present classification of cities into areas A, B & C is enclosed at Annexure I for ready reference.
The Main Objective of Minimum Wages is to provide for fixing the minimum rates of wages in certain employments.
It provides for fixing minimum wages in certain employments where labour is ignorant or less organised and is vulnerable to exploitation.
The Act provides for the fixation of a minimum time rate, a minimum piece rate, a guaranteed time rate, an overtime rate appropriate to different occupations and different classes of workers.
In case there is shortfall in All India Consumer Price Index, as a result of which dearness allowance apparently decreases, in that case there shall be no impact on notified applicable minimum rates of wages for different category of workmen/employees.
The Amount of Dearness Allowance in fraction, if any, would be rounded off to the next higher rupee.
All workmen who are covered under The Employees State Insurance Act, 1948 and Employees Provident Fund & Misc. Provisions Act, 1952 and the employers would continue to deposit employer’s contribution towards ESI and PF as per prescribed rates of contribution as per revised Minimum Wages.
